So let's go back in time to 1879, and it's here we'll find the opening of the wound that

Long before Ed was born, his father, three-year-old George Geen, resided with his own mom, dad

and older sister on a farm in Coon Valley, Wisconsin near the Mississippi River.

One morning his parents, along with his sister, climbed into their horse and carriage buckboard

and went to town to do business.

While a storm was on the horizon, the weather didn't seem forbidding at the time, so even

though the Mississippi was running high, they forged ahead.

That's when a flash flood compounded the issue and made a routine trip a nightmare they

All three of them perished in the rising floodwaters.
