Hey everybody, welcome back to Cold Case Murder Mysteries.

I'm your host Ryan Krauss back in the saddle once again, to lead you on a tour of the

worst the human mind has to offer, this time indulging the modest yet incredibly strange

and violent childhood of Ed Dean, the butcher of Plainfield.

Now in the last episode, we introduced some of the concepts that would come into play

when looking at Ed Geen's life, yet to understand their origin and how that monster came

to be, we'll examine the psychological and by extension physical circumstances in which

the adult Ed was built.

So let's go back in time to 1879, and it's here we'll find the opening of the wound that

ultimately leads to Ed Geen's issues.

Long before Ed was born, his father, three-year-old George Geen, resided with his own mom, dad

and older sister on a farm in Coon Valley, Wisconsin near the Mississippi River.

One morning his parents, along with his sister, climbed into their horse and carriage buckboard

and went to town to do business.

While a storm was on the horizon, the weather didn't seem forbidding at the time, so even

though the Mississippi was running high, they forged ahead.

That's when a flash flood compounded the issue and made a routine trip a nightmare they

couldn't escape.

All three of them perished in the rising floodwaters.

They couldn't stay afloat.

They couldn't get out, so they died.

And back at home, unbeknownst to him at the time, little three-year-old George Geen is
