Summary

A study on the tragic end of John the Baptist. This is the only passage in Mark that isn't directly about Jesus and it records the sad reality of how pride, corruption and lust lead to the murder of John the Baptist. In addition to the discussion on what lead to John's murder under the orders of Herod we will also get into some apologetics issues surrounding the death of John that skeptics bring up, which actually give us more reason to trust what Mark says. Here's the video I mentioned from Inspiring Philosophy on the topic of supposed contradictions in the death of John the Baptist. https://youtu.be/FZpEnHtO7b4 Here's a link to the full Mark playlist. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZ3iRMLYFlHuGenHwUdeiQ5M-uj5XW4sF If you love this ministry and want to support my continued work please click here. https://biblethinker.org/index.php/donate

persecution, what kind of things we should expect as we serve the Lord in

ministry. Sometimes our expectations are our downfall in those things. But there's also

0:31.6

some interesting historical apologetic stuff that we'll get

0:34.7

into as well. So may God give us wisdom. As we dig in Mark 6, starting in verse 14,

0:41.4

we'll take this passage kind of section at a time here. It says and King Herod heard of it

0:46.2

Let me just pause and let you know what is he hearing? He's hearing all that stuff in Mark we've heard so far.

0:50.5

It's he's hearing about Jesus traveling around doing miracles and the disciples of Jesus

0:55.0

going out two by two and spreading the name of Christ. And when they did their miracles, they did

0:59.3

their miracles in the name of Christ. That was last week. We talked about that. So that the name of Jesus is being

1:04.3

known better and better, and Herod the king, he hears of it. And it says here in

1:09.3

verse 14, for his name

1:13.0

John the Baptist has risen from the dead

1:15.0

and that is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.

1:19.0

But others were saying he is Elijah,

1:22.0

and others were saying he is Elijah and others were saying he is a prophet like one of the

1:26.0

prophets of old. Now we're going to come back to King Herod in a minute. His whole
