Today let's talk about the interface that allows us the inner self to experience the world.

I'm going to call that interface the brain, particularly the higher brain, but all parts of the brain are important. Here is a little summary of how our brains have evolved as a result

of the needs we have as living organisms. We have three brains, believe it or not. We have something

called the midbrain or the reptilian brain and this is a brain that evolved almost 300 million years ago and it's found in all reptiles.

But we have a reptilian brain too and this reptilian brain is responsible for survival. So it's

responsible for what we call the fight-of-light response. If you go very close to a reptile and you make a sudden noise or a

sudden movement, if you're very close to the reptile, it will attack you.

If you're far away, it'll slither away from you.

And that's called the startled response.

If you make a certain noise or a sudden movement,

that's how the reptilian brain protects you. It runs or it fights or it freezes.

So just remember the reptilian brain is the Survival Brain.

When I was in medical school, the way we remembered the functions of the reptilian brain were the four

Fs, feeding, fighting, and I won't use the word, but you can get the point.

Fornication is a relatively simpler word, but those are the four f's that are responsible for our survival.

We have a second brain and that is called the limbic brain or the emotional brain.

This brain evolved a hundred million years ago instead of three hundred million years so it's more recent.

The limbic brain is only found in mammals.

And mammals are so-called because of the word mama.

And mama means mother it also means a mammy mother but it's also means memory breast.

So mammals are living organisms

that don't lay eggs, they make babies.
