It's 2011, and a joint team of UK, American, Indian, and Indonesian wildlife biologists and

explorers are surveying the jungles of Carincy Seblatt National Park in West Sumatra.

It's a wildlife refuge larger than plenty of countries that is home to any number of undiscovered species.

Richard Freeman, cryptozoologist, finds himself in a near panic.

A member of his party has stumbled upon a single track in the mud.

But before he's even had time to make a cast of it, he knows.

This is something different. Very different.

A small, simple thing that has the power to change everything. The footprint is photographed,

cast, and catalogued. Whatever left it had been ripping apart a rotting log, presumably in

search of insects to eat. Just days prior, Freeman had met with a man named Sahar. Sahar had seen the thing that

left the footprint. It was eating from a garden and ran off when it realized that Sahar was close,

hooting as it went. A figure neither ape nor human, but something in between orangutang and man.

He was open-minded before, but now Freeman believes.

The hairs on his arm stand in attention.

That places him on edge with both pure and evasion.

They are not alone in this jungle.
