On May 10, 2001, Washington, D.C. police entered the Newport apartment complex located in the neighborhood of DuPont Circle.

Inside the unit of interest, investigators found the sink piled with used dishes, a bag containing dirty laundry, and partially packed suitcases.

Also found were the purse, mobile phone, and credit cards

of the apartment's tenant, 24-year-old Shandra Levy.

Chandra was a graduate of San Francisco State University, and at the time was enrolled

at the University of Southern California to earn her master's degree in public administration.

She was in D.C. finishing up her internship with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, when suddenly,

on May 1, 2001, she disappeared.

Investigators searched the apartment for evidence of Chandra's disappearance.

They scoured her laptop and discovered internet searches related to D.C.'s Rock Creek

Park.

But when police deployed to search the vast park, they were unable to find any trace of her.

That is, until May 22, 2002.

Just over a year later, on that morning, a man was walking his dog in Rock Creek Park looking for turtles.

He noticed his dog sniffing a particular area, and when he examined the site, he discovered the skeletal remains of Shondra Levy.

Chandra's disappearance and murder shown a harsh spotlight on Congressman Gary Condit as allegations

of a sexual affair between the two swept across the country.

According to investigators at the time, the married representative had privately admitted to having a relationship with Chandra.

However, he is never publicly admitted to an affair nor any connection to her disappearance.

For years, investigators searched for answers in the scandalous case, but without any prime suspects, the case went cold.
