look for ways to capitalize on it. I suppose it's only natural, but when people get

greedy and their product happens to be food, the experience can quickly turn from scammy to deadly.

In June 2022, a Tik-Tocker known as Chef Pei started posting videos of herself drizzling or dipping various foods in a goopy pink substance she called pink sauce,

not to be confused with an earlier viral Tik-Tok sensation, the mysterious cleaning paste called the pink stuff.

These pink sauce videos perplexed and fascinated viewers

as many thought it looked disgusting

and others frankly just wanted to taste it and see what it was about.

The intrigue of it all saw Chef P's following grow from

only 800 followers to 142,000 with 4 million likes in just one month. Eventually, she amassed 14.9 million views as a result of the attention

garnered by her mysterious pink sauce. But like many things that go viral, Chef Pea's

sauce was quickly caught up in a controversy that left a bad taste in many people's mouths.
