0:38.2	here's today's. Have you ever been tempted to change a word of the Bible to make it
0:58.1	communicate something you wish it said? Ever been inclined to leave out
1:02.2	certain verses that make you uneasy or add ones that make you feel a little more comfortable?
1:07.0	That's exactly what Old Testament scholar and NIV translation committee member Andrew Sheed believes has happened with the Passion
1:15.0	Translation or TPT of the Psalms.
1:18.9	In a recent international evangelical peer- Theological Journal, Sheed describes TPT as, quote,
1:27.0	abandoning all interest in textual accuracy, playing fast and loose with the
1:32.1	original languages, and inserting so much new
1:34.8	material into the text that it is at least 50% longer than the original. The
1:40.4	result is a strongly sectarian translation that no longer counts as scripture.
1:45.0	By masquerading as a Bible, it threatens to bind entire churches enthrall to a false God."
1:52.0	End quote. Those are strongly enthrall to a false God."
1:53.0	Those are strong words to describe a best-selling Bible translation
1:58.0	that has some well-known church leaders raving.
2:00.6	However, Sheed and other highly regarded Christian scholars respond differently.
