Hello and welcome to Sociology 101.

Glad that you could join us today.

We're going to be talking about the role of the Holy Spirit in salvation.

Now one of the reasons I wanted to bring this particular topic up is because there has

been some misinformation out there online, surprise, surprise, that because I believe that

the gospel is sufficient to enable someone who hears it or reads it to believe, that therefore I don't believe that there's any

role that the Holy Spirit plays in our salvation. And that is absolutely incorrect. One thing that

we often emphasize is that the gospel and its proclamation is a means of the Holy Spirit. In other words,

the Holy Spirit is the one who inspired the authors to write the gospel,

preserve the gospel, to disperse the gospel through the bride,

and therefore anything and everything that the people, the bride of Christ or the apostles,

do, I give credit back to the Holy Spirit.

And so we say the same things that

many Armenians and Calvinists say is that God works through human means. As the old illustration

that we've said a thousand times before about the man who's about to drown and there's the car

that's sent to him in the boat and the helicopter and he keeps turning them away saying, no'm going to trust God to save me he ends up getting up into heaven after he drowns of course

and says God why did you save me and God says I sent you a car a boat and helicopter and obviously

the point of that old sermon analogy is that God works through human means. And I actually believe that means,

mean something. In other words,

means have effect. And it seems to me that I'm one of the only views that actually,

actually has examples of where when the Holy Spirit uses a particular means,

those means are what accomplishes that purpose.
