And each week I will teach verse by verse through the passage of scripture

so that you can better understand the word of God

Well let me just start with prayer and then we'll just dive into it.

Father, as we now meet, we ask that you would renew our minds, teach us, instruct us,

help us to absorb and to internalize what we will study today. I pray for these men that you will

embolden them, make them courageous in this world for Christ.

And I pray that you use the study today to that end.

So we bring to you our praise, we pray this in Christ's name. Amen. Well as you know October 31st is right

around the corner in a couple of days and that's known around the world by Christians as Reformation day

because it was on that day October 31st 1517 that that a Bible professor in Vittenberg Germany named Martin Luther nailed to the front door

of the castle church 95 theses.

They were statements of protest against the Roman Catholic church

for the direction it was headed away from the word of God.

There had been a man going through Saxony, which is Germany, named Tetsel, who was selling indulgences.

And indulgence is pardon for sin.

And he had been sent out by the Pope

to raise as much money as he could

to pad their coffers in Rome and to upgrade the Vatican and to build bigger barns.

And so Tetzal was going through Germany and a grand triumph into cities.
