I've been thinking a lot lately about memory, my past, my present, and how all those experiences roll around in your head together.

The way I picture it, your mind is constantly at war. Good memories, like winning an award or a beach cocktail.

Those things battle the insidious roar of the bad ones,

like the time I lost my best friend, Nikki.

My point is it's not always your choice, what you think about.

You might want to imagine puppies or something,

but the monsters of your mind don't care. They creep in anyway to make your chest ache and your eyes water.

Anyway, last week I went to see my mom in Annapolis.

I haven't spoken too much about my mom.
