I'm Ali Valsham in Washington, D.C. today. President Trump has now spoken out about the shooting at the annual White House correspondence dinner. Officials say last night an attacker armed with two guns and several knives rushed the Secret Service checkpoint in the Washington Hilton lobby.

This video was shared by President Trump. The attacker was apprehended and arrested on the scene.

One Secret Service officer was shot, although they were hit in their ballistics vest. That officer's

been discharged from the hospital. Still unconfirmed what the attacker's motive was or who he was

In a phone interview on Fox last hour, Donald Trump suggested that law enforcement has found some writing that's been attributed to the attacker.

The guy is a sick guy.

When you read his manifesto, he hates Christians.

That's one thing for sure.

And I think his sister or his brother actually was complaining about it.

You know, they were even complaining to law enforcement.

So he was a very troubled guy.

But the White House press secretary, Caroline Levitt, posted on social media this morning

that the attacker, quote, sought to assassinate the president and kill as many top Trump administration

...
