and proving there's no meritocracy in the United States since 1996.

This is hell and back when the show did start in 1996,

27 years ago this summer there were hopes that a new left was in fact

emerging while President Bill Clinton was advancing anti-labor ideas like NAFTA

as well as continuing the illegal bombing of Iraq and supporting

huge media corporations with the Telecommunications Act of 1996, killing independent broadcasters and ushering in an era of far right talk radio being

ubiquitous.

While all that was going on, organizers and activists on the left were creating an anti-globilization and anti-war campaign.

Some argue that all ended with 9-11.

It did not.

A year and a half after 9-11, the US and the world witnessed the largest anti-war protests in human history.

Still, that movement seemed to fade with the election of Barack Obama as president as many mistakenly believed

Obama to be a progressive not what he was and is that is a member of the

moderate conservative wing of the Democratic Party.
