Summary

In the heart of Colfax, Washington, a towering relic of the past looms over the city—St. Ignatius Hospital. Built in 1893 as the first hospital in Whitman County, its halls once echoed with the bustle of patients seeking care. Over time, it transformed from a place of healing to a hotbed of paranormal activity. There is no shortage of eerie encounters and unexplained phenomena behind its crumbling brick façade. Doors slam shut on their own, footsteps charge down vacant corridors, and visitors have reported the unsettling sensation of brushing past invisible figures in the half-lit hallways.

Today on The Grave Talks, we explore the tumultuous history and chilling hauntings of St. Ignatius Hospital with Ghost Tour Director Val Gregory.

Yeah, yeah.

1:24.7

So it started, it was built in 1893 by the Sisters of Providence, and it was called St. Ignatius Hospital and stayed a hospital until about, I would say, 1969. So like I was born there. Anybody from Whitman County would have been born in this hospital

1:47.5

because our closest hospital would have been about an hour and a half away from us in Spokane,

Washington, which was a long ways back then because they didn't have cars and it was like not good

2:25.1

When I was getting ready to talk to you, I googled Colfax, Washington. And this has nothing to do with the hospital. I just thought it was an interesting

2:34.5

side note. And I wonder if it's actually true. But they said the city was initially the founder

2:40.4

named it after his, I don't know if it was his girlfriend or his wife. His girlfriend.
