Hello, welcome back to making the argument. And today I'm going to talk about two things,

0:08.4

really. One is why I decided to leave political office long before I would have had to,

0:16.5

and why I'm actually optimistic about America's political future, despite the fact that Virginia

0:26.3

is attempting to California occasion itself right now.

0:29.0

And despite the fact that the right seems determined to get in the most public of food fights,

0:39.1

sometimes over important stuff,

0:41.4

and sometimes over stupid stuff,

0:44.6

right before a midterm election,

0:46.6

which is increasingly leading me to believe

0:49.2

that we're probably going to lose control

0:52.0

of at least the House of Representatives at a time where we

0:57.2

really, really can't afford to. And yet, despite all that, I'm optimistic. So you have to

stick around for the second part. So the first part is, why did I leave office? And this kind of

1:22.3

despite all my frustration with the Republican Party is because of the platform.

1:26.5

When I look at the platform, when I look at the stated beliefs of the Republican Party,

1:29.7

I tend to align with the vast majority of it.

1:33.2

There's some stuff they don't do as much as I would like,

1:35.9

or they're not as hardcore as I would like to be, but I generally support it.

1:39.6

And then when I look at the Democratic Party platform,

...
