The Department of Justice recently sided with the Bush administration on a troubling

case dealing with rendition and detention of terror suspects.

It was a surprising reversal for the Obama administration, even to the judges hearing the case.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg

for our new attorney general,

so says newly minted Cato Institute Senior Fellow,

Nat Henthoff.

Before he was selected by Barack Obama

to be the next attorney general, what did we already

know about Eric Holder?

What we knew in the context of bringing us back to American values, the term that the president often uses, he gave a speechholder last June before a constitution society attacking a lot of the Bush administration

policies especially renditions, kidnapping of suspects off the streets of Europe and other places sending them to places

to countries that we know are torturing people and here is Eric Holder

our attorney general on Monday doing something that astonished the three panel

judge in federal court, Ninth Circuit Court in San Francisco on a crucial case that has been covered all over the world,

telling the court, you can't go any farther with this case.

He told it through a justice department lawyer he sent

but this is holder talking and it's the president talking they said state

secrets our state secrets require you not to hear this case, no evidence, shut it down.

Now the Bush administration has taken this state secrets privileged and abused it more than

any president in history.
