Summary

Back on the podcast is my good friend, Sam Parsoni. And today, here's here to spill the tea. He's not holding back. You the listener will be blessed being a fly on the wall for a conversation that is normally reserved for private-conversations. Sam is a free-agent and goes IN-DEPTH on the realities of the sport, the ins and outs of contracts, how companies take advantage of athletes, his hope for the future, all the updates on Tinman Elite, and more. If you don't know who Sam Parsons, you've probably been sleeping under a rock. Or you just didn't recognize that name because I exclusively call him Sam Parsoni. But to bring you up to speed, he's represented Germany at the 2019, 2022, and 2023 World Athletics Championships. Sam had a terrific high school career, running 1:58 in the 800, 4:12 in the Mile, 9:00 in the 3200, and 14:47 in the 5K. He qualified for Nike XC Nationals as a senior. At NC State, Sam ran 3:44 in the 1500, 13:52 in the 5K, and 28:43 in the 10K. He was a 4-time participant at the NCAA XC Championships, finishing as high as 51st at the 2016 Division 1 XC Champs with a time of 30:33. Sam signed his first pro deal in 2018 with Adidas.  Sam currently holds PRs of 3:36.22 in the 1500m, 3:54 in the Mile, 7:39 in the 3k, 13:12 in the 5k, and 28:43 in the 10k. In today's conversation, we cover all of Sam's updates, how much I need to pay him to rock a singlet of my choosing, the ins and outs of pro-contracts, and so much more. This one is packed with info and discussion that you won't find anywhere else. Do not miss it! And I really hope, like you said, five, 10 years from now, hopefully it doesn't take that long.

There is all of a sudden a governing body that changes all these things where it's like, hey,

0:08.7

NDAs are really bad for the athletes.

0:11.3

That's why all the athletes need to come together and sign and say, hey, we're all part of this.

0:15.7

It all needs to be public so that we all benefit, even though it's going to be really embarrassing.

0:20.8

You know what I mean? so that we all benefit, even though it's going to be really embarrassing.

0:21.3

You know what I mean?

0:24.3

Like for some people, it's still going to be better.

0:27.8

And there's so many different things you could go off of that within that player association, you know, where all of a sudden it's like, no, you can't pay someone less

0:31.9

than this amount of money.

0:34.9

That was Sam Parsons, or as I like to to call him, Sam Parsone today on the Running Effect

0:39.7

podcast. Today's conversation is a special one because anytime I get Sam on the podcast, he's

0:45.4

always so open, honest, and vulnerable, which always creates really thoughtful discussions around

0:50.8

a plethora of topics. But today's conversation and where it naturally went without

0:54.5

us even planning on it going this direction was the realm of contracts, which is something that doesn't

1:00.7

get talked a lot about within the running world. Sam's contract with Adidas, who he's been with,

1:05.5

his whole professional career, was up at the end of last year, if I'm not mistaken. And so we talk about that world a lot in this

1:12.7

conversation, Sam's future, his future with Tin Man Elite, the future of Tin Man Elite, which he's a

1:17.7

co-founder of. And yeah, this conversation really centers around professional contracts,

1:22.2

the structures, the incentives, why they aren't public, fixes we would make to them, a whole host of conversations

1:29.0

around that topic. This one was really insightful, definitely off the map compared to most of my

1:34.3

podcast, but that's what made it really special. Sam always, as I said a minute ago,
