It's Saturday, the 2nd July in 1949. Otovish has come up from Rome to Lake Albano,

just a little outside the city to visit an old

comrade. He's married to an Italian here and they've got a little girl. He's feeling

great. He's finally emerging from a difficult period. He's been in Rome for three months.

He's made acquaintances. He's about to get a passport which is going to get him out to Argentina or some other place.

He's a hunted man, but here he is with someone he trusts and he feels good.

He invited me to spend the night, so I slept there and met his wife and the baby.

Ten days after spending the weekend with a mysterious old comrade, Otto Verta, Nazi on the run, is dead.

If Otto was poisoned, then the old comrade is likely to be suspect number one.

It's taken an awfully long time,

but we've discovered who that person is, and it's pretty surprising. I'm Philip Sans and this is the Rat Line.
