The RMS Queen Mary was born of an era when ocean liners represented the height of luxury and innovation.

Commissioned by the Cunard Line, she was constructed by John Brown and Company in Clyde Bank, Scotland,

during the early 1930s. As the world faced

economic uncertainty in the Great Depression, the Queen Mary symbolized hope and resilience,

a marvel of engineering and design. Launched in 1934, she embarked on her maiden voyage.

Two years later, setting a new standard for transatlantic travel,

and during her early years, the Queen Mary quickly earned a reputation for opulence, hosting celebrities,

royals, and dignitaries. She was equipped with lavish dining halls, an indoor swimming pool,

and first-class suites that rivaled the finest hotels.

Her service epitomized the golden age of ocean travel until the world plunged into war.

In 1939, as World War II erupted, the Queen Mary's story took a dramatic turn.

She was requisitioned by the British government and repurposed as a

troop ship. Painted a dull gray and stripped of her luxurious interiors, she earned the nickname

Gray Ghost due to her ability to evade enemy submarines. The Queen Mary carried hundreds of

thousands of soldiers across the Atlantic, often crammed to capacity. It was during this time that tragedy struck,

a collision with the HMS Curicoa in 1942 resulted in the loss of over 300 lives.

The ship's wartime experiences marked by death and hardship are often cited as a potential source of her later paranormal activity.

After the war, the Queen Mary returned to her original purpose, undergoing a refit to restore her grandeur.

Throughout the late 1940s and 1950s, she reclaimed her place as a premier ocean liner.

However, the rise of air travel in the 1960s spelled doom for the transatlantic

shipping industry. By 1967, the Queen Mary was retired from active service, her fate uncertain.
