I'm Brian. I'm on the phone with Ashvin, and today we are discussing The Purge from 2013, directed and written by James DeMonico, starring Ethan Hawk, Lena Hetty, Max Berkholder, Adelaide Kane, and Reese Wakefield. In this film,

in a dystopian future where all crime is legal for one end of the year, things don't go as

plan for a well-off family who expects to spend the night

sheltered safely in their secure home.

and review the movie uh yeah i've i've never seen this before oj had you seen this that's crazy

man yeah i've seen this i know i've seen like some of the sequels as well so you haven't seen

anything in this franchise i haven't at all, and I think that's strange of me.

I'm not sure how I missed it.

So I kind of had it on my radar for a while.

It's like, A, I should see this, B, we should cover it.

Like, does, I guess I never assumed, like, the horror community would, like, embrace this film. I guess I never assumed like the horror community would like embrace this film.

Like does that like even like the tags on it are like sci-fi and drama and thriller. Do you think it counts as horror?

Boy, I always assumed it did, but as I watched it, I was like, maybe it's not. There's no horror tag on

IMDB? I forget where I was looking. Maybe it was like on Amazon when I was like renting it

or something, but yeah, it didn't say horror. But it does kind of play out like a home invasion
