Let's turn to Hebrew chapter 5 as he begins an exploration of the progress of discipleship.

All of us would be upset with a mother who having given birth to a child abandoned the child.

We would not be satisfied simply that the baby was born and then she leaves the baby on a

doorstep or in a garbage can because the fact that she didn't abort the baby, while that's good, it's not sufficient that she simply had the baby.

Because we want to see babies grow up to become adults.

We want to see them reach full age.

The same concern that we would have about a mother

is the concern God has for the babies born into his family. He is not satisfied just

that we're born again. He's not satisfied merely that we got converted or that we

accepted Jesus Christ as our personal sin
