Summary

The Movers and Shakers are back in the pub after a relaxing summer. Oh, who are we kidding? It's been a frantic struggle to get the #ParkyCharter petition to 100k signatories but we – which is to say: you – did it! Now we're kicking off the new series with a look at Gillian's big news. She's had the brand new produodopa pump installed. But is it the blessing its champions suggest? Or do the downsides outweigh the positives? To discuss, we're joined by international expert Professor Camille Carroll, as well as hearing some testimony from other users.

Living with Parkinson's woo-ho!

Hooray! And etc. We have got such an interesting line-up for this series. Just to thread a few goodies here and there, there is a question of how and when you should tell people about your diagnosis and to phrase it differently, how long you should hide it for. Let's talk of Parkinson's in Africa, which is a rather depressing topic, but which will bring some hope to. And talking of depression, there is a whole episode devoted to that subject. The theme of today's episode, though, is a new, well, relatively new pro-duidopa pump, which I've been on, well, and off, actually,

1:13.0

since the end of May. But first of all, given that we're only just back from the summer,

1:17.2

let's see who's here and what everyone's been up to, because there's quite a lot that's

1:20.7

happened over the summer. Nicholas Mollstone. Former Lee Rogers. Mark Mordale.

1:25.2

And Rory Ketland Jones. What we've been discussing all summer is the petition,

1:30.5

which we had from about April until September the 10th, just a few days ago, to try and get

1:37.3

100,000 signatures. And did we do it, Rory? Well, we thought it was going to be touch and go. It was

1:42.5

very slow at a certain point. We thought, God, August is going to come and nobody will sign up in August.

1:47.5

And then we had an amazing week, amazing week at the beginning of July when we went absolutely viral and we hit our target early.

1:55.8

So since then we've been kind of lying back on our sun lounges, drinking cocktails and relaxing.

2:00.6

But it is important to say, thanks for the Parkers' community, we hit that magic number, which means we do get a debate in the House of Commons. And my children would say we absolutely, with the help of the community, pumped it. It was brilliant and it was very much with the help of the community, wasn't it? All those people like... Hugely. Can we do a few personal things? Because they really are you. Linda and Bexhill, who won the competition. Well, hey. I've got to know Linda since then, and she's in a force of nature. She's absolutely, incredible, isn't she? Incredible, amazing. But also Tony and Stephanie in West Dorset. And in Twickenham. And Liz, the poet from Bedford, whose TikTok went absolutely viral and basically rocket-fueled us towards the damp. That was the one thing, wasn't it? If he had to point it, a single thing, I think that was it. Absolutely amazing. So it was a very busy time, very traumatic, but I'll say, this isn't the end,

2:51.7

it's just the beginning of the beginning, really. And we've been sort of celebrating the moment

2:56.4

and giving more information with a whole series of articles about the five demands in the Parky
