You're going to see. Oh, oh, ohle here, your host for Stans to Reason, and one week from today, well I want to see

his election day, but that's not true anymore, it's election month, right?

Because people are, I guess, 40 million people I think I read this morning have already

voted but in any event of course there are lots of things on the line we're not going

to talk all candidates can't't do that. But we can talk about

legislation and California is one of those states and you know it maybe it's not unique. I know others

have initiative processes like California,

but basically it's pure democracy.

In other words, there's something, a bill,

a piece of legislation that everybody gets to vote on and the majority wins and that's

pure democracy and as I've observed this process over the years I understand why pure democracy is not a good idea and why

we have a representative of a Republican. Part of the reason is is it's not

because people are stupid. It's just that they're not in a position to be able to evaluate the issues carefully to see the long-term ramifications or even the short-term collateral ramifications of any piece of legislation and people who are putting this legislation forward

Put it in the most appealing rhetorical presentation.

And I've marveled over the years during this silly season

of elections at commercials that I hear about the various propositions, you see it on TV, you hear it on the radio,

and you can watch the entire commercial and not really have any idea of what the proposition is really about, except for it's really bad, or it's really

fabulous. But you can't make any sense of the proposition proper because of all of the rhetoric that is

obscuring what's going on. We want to try to beat that here today because I want to

start out talking here about California Prop 3 and I'm kind of modestly ashamed to say that I didn't even know about

this proposition until just a couple of weeks ago because my my head has been

somewhat buried in theological sand and I've been running around doing

...
