It kind of is the contest America deserves right now.

And I think it is important to be honest about that and about the fact that as citizens,

the vast majority of us have not tended the fire of our democracy and left that work

to the professional fire keepers.

And it only gets our attention when they let it become a forest fire, right?

That's this really destructive thing.

I feel like, wow, why did the professional fire keepers make this fire bigger?

Because that is what happens.
