Summary

How should we, as the family of faith, be responding to the things the U.S. government tells us or wants from us? For many Christians, this is a difficult question to answer, as there are passages in the Bible that say we must be obedient to the government because God has ordained it. Even still, we must be careful listening to people in powerful positions in government who don’t know who God is, and don’t know what He has been doing for His people throughout history. Followers of Christ are not meant to be complacent and obedient to secular government, but are meant to be salt and light to a fallen world. It is our challenge to balance our perspective, always seeking peace and blessing by God. Change begins at the local, grassroots level, which is where the family of faith has an obligation and a calling to stand against tyrannical power. The more that our world reflects the Kingdom of heaven, the more we will see lasting liberty in place of short-term victories.
