Our scriptural text today comes from Psalm 63, verse 6 through 8, if you'll notice there in the New Living Translation, these words,

I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night, because you are my helper.

I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you.

Your strong right hand holds me securely. We're talking today from the subject of the power

of reflection. The power of reflection.

You would wonder with words like these

whether this is a lover expressing their endearment

to their lover that I lay awake at night thinking of you.

But here the psalmist is actually talking about God. I mean, how many times have you

ever laid awake at night thinking about him? About his goodness, about his mercy to you. He's said

here that, Lord, I lie awake at night thinking about you because you are my helper.

How many times have you ever just laid in the bed and reflected on God being your helper?

This is a Psalm of David while David is in the wilderness of Judah,

running away from enemies and dealing with attacks against his life. And yet he is not

thinking about his trouble. He's thinking about the one who is bigger than his trouble.

He's not thinking about his problem. He's thinking about the one who

is his problem solver. And he's reflecting on God. There is a power in just lying on your bed

and just thinking about God, reflecting on his goodness and his mercy. You hear the saints that said that when I think of the goodness of Jesus

and all that He's done for me, see, this is a message of reflection

that when I let my mind run back out of everything that has happened to me

and he still has made me to be able to stand through it all.
