Summary

"Meditation has helped me value life more and be more grateful for each passing day." ~ Fellow Meditator, Josh from Dublin, Ireland

If there's one thing you could change about yourself that would improve your life, it is the quality of your thoughts. Moods often get in the way of our most beautiful thoughts. Taming your moods helps you to focus on internal contentment regardless of what's happening in the external world.   This is part 2 of a 7-part Taming Bad Moods meditation series, episodes 2187-2193.   THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE: You're invited to take part in a Positivity Quest. Every day this week, focus on feeling an inner awareness of contentment, regardless of what's happening in the external world. This Quest will help to retrain your brain to focus on uplifting thoughts.   THIS WEEK'S MEDITATION TECHNIQUES:   Day 1:   Mood Awareness Visualization Day 2:  Affirmation "I uplift my thoughts in all situations." Day 3:  Inhale 6, Hold 7, Exhale 8 Day 4:  Shankh Mudra technique Day 5:  Seventh Chakra Focus Day 6:  Layer the week's techniques together Day 7:  Weekly Reflection Meditation   LET'S SUPPORT EACH OTHER - WANT TO SHARE YOUR MEDITATION  RITUAL WITH YOUR FELLOW MEDITATORS?    Let's connect and inspire each other! This is episode 2,188 of the Daily Meditation Podcast. I'm Mary Meckley and I welcome you to day two of our series we're exploring this week.

0:13.5

This is a special series to help you manage a bad mood. Bad moods seem to be going around a lot these days. You may find

0:24.9

this even with yourself. They seem almost as contagious as the coronavirus. As you start a brand

0:33.2

new year, one of the most powerful ways you can improve your life on many levels is, of course,

0:41.6

meditation, which you are doing, but it's also to manage negative moods. And you might think,

0:48.3

well, I'm meditating, so that takes care of my negative moods. But actually, whatever you tend to focus on most is what will show up most in your life.

1:02.0

So even as you meditate, you might feel your thoughts spiraling downward.

1:07.0

You could even be intensifying your negative thoughts to where you might even be ruminating

1:14.3

not able to let go of certain negative thoughts. So this is an important week where you will

1:21.4

learn how to uplift your thoughts. In today's episode, you're going to discover an affirmation. An affirmation is a powerful

1:32.9

statement that helps you focus on an intention. The intention this week is to go on a positivity quest.

1:45.0

That is actually your challenge for the week.

1:48.0

Every week I share with you a challenge.

1:51.0

You are challenged to notice when your thoughts begin to spiral downward

1:58.0

and even to begin to notice when your thoughts spiral upward

2:05.6

anything that takes you out of feeling nice and centered or balanced can cause

2:15.6

your emotional state to come crashing downward.

2:20.3

So when you think about your thoughts,

2:23.3

you can think of them as a pendulum that swings

2:28.3

from one extreme direction to the other.

2:32.3

So even when you're experiencing a positive state, such as ecstasy or

2:40.6

excitement, those big strong emotions, even though they're positive, are difficult to maintain.
