All right, terms like the post-war consensus and the rules-based international order,

0:05.5

these are terms that are getting thrown around a lot more now.

0:07.4

And the reason why they're getting thrown around is because this is more or less what

0:11.5

the Western civilization is operated under.

0:15.3

This has been kind of the international order that has governed our behavior for about 80 years.

0:21.4

So when we talk about the post-war consensus, we're talking about World War II.

0:25.1

And what do we mean by that?

0:26.3

Well, essentially, it's how do we prevent another world war for taking place?

0:30.6

And there were certain rules, certain ideas that were put into place that range from

0:34.4

everything from what justified actually going to war to Carl Popper's

0:39.9

idea of an open society and its enemies and what does that mean? But a lot of it was based around

0:45.2

again, just trying to prevent certain tragedies that had taken place. And today what we're going

0:49.4

0:55.9

that we need to hold on to and try to protect and preserve going forward? Because one thing is not

1:01.3

being questioned right now. And that is it's starting to break. The whole international order that we

1:07.3

have more or less lived under for eight decades is starting to break. And the question

1:13.2

is, what is going to replace it? All of that and more coming up on this episode of making the

1:17.9

argument. I'm your host, Nick Freitas with me in the studio, my beautiful bride, Tina Queen of the

1:21.1

Bees. Hello, everyone. And then we have our resident historian political prognosticator,

1:25.2

the Oracle of Virginia Christian Hines. How are you doing? I'm doing well. Okay. So let's go ahead and jump right into it. Let's answer first and foremost,

1:31.9

like, what is the post-war consensus? And we've kind of got this broken down into what does it mean

1:38.4

for domestic politics, foreign policy, economics, like what do we mean when we talk about post-war consensus?
