I'm your host, Kory Miskara, and in today's episode we're going to talk about the new possibility that results from a loss.

First, let's settle in together with the sound of what I introduced yesterday, which was the idea of learned

hopefulness based on a book by Dr. Dan Thomasula that I am really enjoying.

And research shows that feelings of hope and optimism

result from reframing past experiences.

And so the exercise I'm going to share with you today

as outlined in the book, but as originally researched

by Dr. Teab Rashid and Dr. Martin Seligman can help you understand how darkness can shift to light in your own life.

So this exercise is pretty simple. It involves two steps.

Step one is you write about three moments in your life

when a negative event led to an unforeseen positive consequence.

So something important was lost,

but another opportunity presented itself

that otherwise might not have.

So you closed one door on one thing, but it opened up another door.

And I think we can all reflect on past experiences where that has been the case.

The important thing here is that the second door could not have been opened unless the first

one closed.
