Well, I don't quite understand that. I think that racism, you know, not race. I find that euphemistic.

We're not talking about people's different skin colors, that said, raceism is a topic of great

import in the United States, both in terms of the fact that it does exist, but I would say even more

in the fact that the ways that we talk about it are often so diagonally related to the reality,

and opinions differ as to the appropriateness of that diagonality, as in how important is racism

in the fate of black America right now in the present tense, as opposed to in the past.

I think these are urgent discussions, and I think that they are worth discussing because

a certain segment might say we need to just get past race and not talk about it at all, but

the truth is, out on the ground, a major segment of people, including the ones who are most

influential in the world of letters and in the world of education, including of children,

are never going to see it that way. It might be nice, but never will they see it that way.
