Welcome back. Patrick Madrid here.

And we're talking today, as you've been hearing about great saints, great men and women, boys and girls who have fought the good fight, they've run the race,

0:22.6

and now they have the crown of victory in heaven seeing God face to face. As all those in

0:26.9

heaven do, they're all saints in heaven. And some of them, for our benefit anyway, have been

0:32.5

canonized. And after a long and careful process of determining whether or not the person really was as holy as they appeared to be, the church, after miracles are performed, and other things, the church winds up making this declaration as this person is indeed a saint and is canonized. That's the term that we use for that. But keep in mind that everybody in heaven is a saint. Now in this list of saints that we're talking about today, I've already covered St. Dominic Savio and St. John Bosco. In just a moment, I'm going to talk about St. Edmund Campion. Maybe you've heard of him, maybe you haven't heard of him, but his story is amazing. And I'll share with you a little bit about that. First, though, remember that today is the feast of all saints. And it's a first-class feast day. We go to Mass as a holy day of obligation today, so don't forget to do that. And even if it means an inconvenience, go to Mass. And if you can do so, maybe noon Mass where you are, if it's available or an evening

1:28.7

mass is probably what most people are going to be doing. Don't shrug it off. That's not the way to become a saint, by the way. Remember that Jesus said, if you're faithful in little things, you'll be faithful in big things. And if you're unfaithful in little things, you'll be unfaithful in big things. So this is, if you want to think of it as a little thing, this is something to be

1:45.8

faithful in, the is something to be faithful

1:46.2

in, the way you would stay faithful to the one hour fast before receiving Holy Communion.

1:51.7

You may say, what's that?

1:52.8

Well, you fast from all food and liquid, except for water, and you can have medicine, of course,

2:00.2

but all food and liquid, you fast from that

2:03.2

for an hour before receiving Holy Communion, not even an hour before going to Mass, not an hour

2:07.4

before Mass starts even, but an hour before you receive Holy Communion.

2:12.7

So it's just the bare minimum that the church is saying that you should prepare yourself spiritually and

2:19.2

physically indeed, you know, mastering and subduing your appetites for food and make a little

2:24.5

penance, a little mortification, you receive our Lord and Holy Communion. That is another example

2:29.1

of a little thing. Getting to Mass on Sunday. The church has a requirement that we go to Mass every Sunday.

2:37.0

Unless you're deterred by illness, or maybe there's a sickly child, you have to take care of the child,
