Today I want to talk about something that I've been seeing a lot on social media and also in just

regular old school media.

Lately in the world has started using the language of feminism to try to sell women a version of

the patriarchy a version of giving up their agency and becoming more submissive to men

with really really good branding and tradwives for just one example of that i've been talking

about it so much on the road on book tour for everyone is lying to you. Have you ordered it yet, by the way? It is chef's kiss. I swear to God. If you haven't gotten it, get it today. You're going to love it. I promise. I promise. Because that is what we're talking about today. We're talking about how the patriarchy has gotten very good at rebranding and repackaging both feminism and femininity.

Today I get to talk to Dr. Nicole Mason. She is just a brilliant, brilliant lady. She's not just a policy expert and a powerhouse.

She also coined the term she session, which talks about how in a recession, women often do much worse than men, and how even in regular times we could be going through a she session.

Today, we're getting into so much. I mean, this conversation really does cover all of the things.

We're digging into exactly how the pandemic exposed and accelerated. The care crisis for women,

a care crisis that continues to this day, thought it might get fixed. It didn't. Because five years

later, not nearly enough has changed. We're also getting into the rise of tradwives, soft girl,

soft life culture, and the curated fantasy that walking away

from equality is somehow the answer. That's what this patriarchal branding is doing right now.

Dr. Mason is so good at breaking down how the right is co-opting the language of femininity and

choice to push women further and further out of power.

And we're going to talk about the question that I keep asking all of the time,

why don't we on the left, why don't we in the center, actually, have a better counter-narrative?

This is a conversation about work, about motherhood, about policy and power, but more than anything,

it is about what women are still expected to carry and how, just how, we might finally be able

to stop carrying it alone.
