Summary
While working overnight on a hospital comfort care unit, one nurse spent hours caring for a woman nearing the end of her life after suffering a catastrophic stroke. Unable to speak or move, the patient appeared frightened and in pain as her family gathered around her bedside preparing to say goodbye.
The nurse did everything he could to ease her final hours, repositioning her, managing her pain, and quietly supporting the family through the process of letting her go. Toward the end of the shift, he sensed something in the room shift after the woman’s daughter softly told her mother it was okay to move on.
Later that night, after finally returning home to sleep, the nurse experienced an intensely vivid dream involving a glowing golden light, overwhelming emotion, and what felt like direct contact with the patient herself.
Then he returned to work and learned the exact time she had died.
