They were a group of loosely connected paramilitary cells that wreaked havoc across Brussels in the 70s and the 80s. To this day, no one really knows what they were doing or why they were doing it.

It's looking like there was collusion from the police and the state.

A new legal case into it has been opened recently.

Nick is going to explain the bizarre situation.

I think a lot of people are unaware of this outside Belgium or outside of Europe.

So firstly, please just explain to us what was, what is the Braebank killings?

Like, what is the crux of it before we go into theories

and everything else what actually was this event yeah so in the 80s belgium uh starting in

in 1982 in march of 1982 uh and ending in the fall of 1985 there were a a series of attacks on mostly supermarkets.

And they were led by these masked, basically these sort of guys that looked like, you know,

they had military training.

They looked, they had all these guns, you know, they wouldn't hesitate to shoot at the clients or the employees of the supermarkets and all that.

And it's, you know, it's sort of like traumatized Belgium at the time because there was no reason really to these attacks.

They seem like they happened out of nowhere and the police forces couldn't do anything about

it and all that.
