The Outsider

My life is a strange one, or at least it is now.

I'm sure I must have grown up somewhere, but I couldn't tell you where.

I also must have a name, but I can't tell you that either because I can't seem to remember it.

Sometimes it seems to be there, floating like a cork in the waters of my mind,

but it bobs under when I reach for it, leaving me empty-handed.

I live in an ancient castle. I know I haven't always lived here, but it's all I can remember.

The castle is terribly old and terribly horrible. It's full of dark, twisty passages.

Some of the ceilings are so high you can only see cobwebs and shadow.

Other so cramped you had to wade through spider webs to get through.

The stone is crumbling and wet and the nasty smell seems to get into everything.

I don't remember ever seeing natural light, not the sun or the moon, though I've read about them in my books.
