Summary

Japanese director, Ryusuke Hamaguchi powerful exploration of love, loss, creativity and guilt is without question, beautifully made, filmed, edited and acted but while John loved it the editor and Steve would have cut it down significantly. Still they both had a lot to say about this powerful and completely unique piece of cinema.

Of course, if you want to watch John and Steve as well as listen you can see the video right here.

I'm very happy to be joined by my cinephiles co-host and my brother and life Steve Morris.

0:26.8

How are you Steve?

0:28.0

I'm good. I'm thinking about taking a long slow drive and it's sort of a silent,

0:32.9

contemplative way. That's just really appealing to me at the moment. How are you doing?

0:38.2

I think I would take that drive as well if I was dealing with something and he'd come to terms

0:42.0

with the loss and really open myself up. I think a drive in the Japanese countryside would

absolutely do the trick as well as trying to mount an Uncle Vaughnia player in tandem.

0:54.3

That would help me break through some walls here and get the inner or accepting of my inner life

1:00.0

and my inner trauma and moving on. Wouldn't you say so Steve?

last year by Riyosuke Hamaguchi. It's one that both Steve and I have come to from different places.

1:28.3

I saw it a few months ago. Rewatched it again over the last few days. Steve watched it recently

1:36.1

so we're going to talk about it breaking down, give her overall thoughts on it and then discuss

1:40.1

its Oscars chances as we look at the Oscars ceremony happening this Sunday. So Steve I go to

1:46.3

you first as I go to you first on each one of these episodes. Watch your overall thoughts and feelings

1:51.2

of this film Drive My Car. A Japanese drama road film here that we kind of alluded to with the
