0:27.3	and we know far less about it than we might like to believe.
0:30.5	There are whole places and times spans of thousands of years where we have only the vaguest idea what was happening.
0:36.5	Who was living in a specific region and what their lives were like?
0:39.7	One or two archaeological sites found by chance and excavated decades ago might stand in for an entire culture that lasted for hundreds of years.
0:47.9	Now that's true even for specialists who have spent their entire lives learning about archaeology.
1:00.0	It's even more pronounced for the general public whose exposure to the more distant reaches of the human past is limited to only a few areas. But these less exalted ancient societies have a great deal to teach us and we're learning more about them all the time.
