It is Wednesday, February 5th, 2025. Let's get into the mix. Here are your Washington headlines of the day.

Number one, Republicans' options to get the budget moving.

Number two, Democrats fall out of love with Doge.

And number three, Mick Mulvaney, Breece House Republicans, let's get into it.

Goodness gracious, things are not going great on the budget.

Let's just review where we are, where House Republicans are, which is the leadership floated a plan

at the retreat, effectively. They floated this plan over a period of time, but they floated it

at the retreat to basically cut $500 billion as part of their one-bill

reconciliation package.

Conservative hardliners were like, nah, we'd actually like between $2 and $5 trillion.

So they wanted four times as many cuts or as much cuts.

And the House Budget Committee, which was meant to wrap up or to mark up, rather, the budget this week has postponed their hearing, which is something we scooped a couple days ago.

This is not great.

It's not fatal.

It's just not great. It's not great because Mike Johnson said he would be marking up, the Republicans would be marking up the budget this week. They are not. If they mark it up next week, that means they are probably not going to get the budget to the House floor for some time. Why do I say that? Because next week,

they are in until Thursday. That means the next week, the week of the 17th, they are out

a session. So the budget probably won't come to the floor until the week of

the 24th of February. That makes Senate consideration, and remember, the Senate could amend this
