Summary

Penitentiaries and jails are likely places where you’ll find hauntings and paranormal activity. The Old Idaho Penitentiary is no exception. It was built in 1870 while Idaho was still a territory, serving as a jail for 101 years. It’s seen its share of scandals, escapes, riots, and executions.

One of those executed prisoners, Raymond Snowden, is believed to have never left. Staff and visitors have claimed to have heard voices, been physically touched, or experienced a strange feeling on the property.

0:10.8	JC Brane. What kind of activity is reported there most frequently?
0:17.7	I was going to say, do you want me to give you one of my stories?
0:20.6	Yes, please. I can be I can be hardened sometimes because I build
0:25.3	our haunted house here at Halloween and and you know I'm a I'm a Halloween guy and so it so it takes a lot to get me but one of my most vivid moments, you know,
0:39.0	encounters working here was in that building. I was going from the drop room, which is the room below the gallows where the body would have been lowered.
0:50.0	I was walking from the drop room downstairs which is the room underneath the gallows where the body is lowered.
0:58.0	And you call that the drop room. We call it the drop room.
1:02.0	Yeah, just because it's creepy. just because it's what it is. It is. Yeah, it's essentially a well, a big kind of open space and where they're able to to clean up and then remove the body.
1:19.4	But that's the back door of this building. So when we close up at night, we'll close that door, we'll walk up the stairs to the upstairs area of that building, two-level, two-story building.
1:34.0	And as I was walking up those stairs, it felt occupied.
1:40.0	It felt like it would with people running back and forth past you.
1:45.4	Oh, that's interesting.
1:46.4	And obviously I was alone on that staircase.
1:50.6	And so becoming a little disoriented, also hearing voices upstairs on the second floor, thinking,
1:58.0	oh my goodness, you know, there must be people still up here that I'm going to have to remind that we're closing, you know, and that they need to make their way out of the building to the front of the site and get up there and there's no one up there so it's almost like you know people
2:15.6	running upstairs ahead of me and and then hearing them too but then not not encountering
2:21.2	anything throughout the building while I was there.
2:23.3	So a very strange, strange moments.
2:27.1	Yeah, and it was that real to you that you thought,
2:30.4	oh, they need to leave the building because we're closing up. I've got to go tell them.
