If you think about different kinds of sin and different aspects of sin, it's very evident

what the answer to that is, and that is pride, because it is very difficult to detect

Very, very difficult to confess, God, I'm ashamed, but I'm prideful.

Confessing pride and greed are two sins that you don't hear much about as far as confession is concerned.

And certainly it's the one that God hates. It's the

absolutely opposite of humility. And of course, it's the root cause of all of the sins. Well,

this is the second message in our series on humility in the life of the believer. And I want you to

turn, if you will, to the book of First Peter. First Peter

Chapter 5, and I want us to read a few verses here. The title of this message is humility, the obstacle.

The obstacle to our humility is certainly pride. And Peter is writing to those who have been scattered

abroad, and he is warning them against dangers that are coming.

He realizes that it is coming and he's trying to prepare them for that oncoming danger.

And so he's warning them and encouraging them and admonishing them to be humble, to be watchful,

and to be hopeful. And it's that first one that I want us to notice, beginning in

verse one of chapter 5. His first part is to the pastors, and he says, therefore, I exhort the elders
