Now, for those who may be new to the podcast or haven't read my books, I'm going to do some quick cliff notes about mitochondria.

And then we can dive right in about how algae actually helps to boost its function.

So just real briefly, those of you who don't know, mitochondria are sometimes referred to as our cells power houses.

They are ancient, engulfed bacteria that about two billion years ago took up homes in our cells and they produce ATP, our energy currency, from the food we eat, from glucose, fats and proteins.

And producing ATP is incredibly hard work and incredibly damaging to mitochondria.

mitochondria suffer from making all that energy.

And one of the theories of aging, and in fact one of the theories of cancer and one of the theories of dementia, is that our mitochondria become dysfunctional and no longer work properly.

So keeping our mitochondria in tip-top shape is really one of the keys to everyday energy production, but long term, great long term health.
