It was all a dream. Those were the words that introduced me to the notorious BIG.

And soon after, there really were sold out seats to hear Biggie Small speak. But before that, and I mean way back, even before he had the

Red and Black Lumberjack with the hat to match. Before there was the limelight, and even

before he learned how to rhyme tight. Back when there was only

potential. When there was only the future, there was this. A moment.

On May 21st, 1972 at St Mary's Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, a Jamaican preschool teacher

named Valletta Wallace gives birth to a baby boy. And while most of the world would

only ever come to know him as the notorious BIG, Biggie Smalls, Big Papa, or even the Black, Frank White,

he entered this existence as simply as the rest of us,

given a name to remind him of where he comes from, but left to fend for himself as he

travels the long lonely path to finding his true identity.

And in the two decades since the crime, nobody has faced justice for the murder.
