speculation. The assignment came through the company office with minimal explanation. A foundry in East

Central Florida needed overnight coverage. Officers had been calling in sick or refusing the

post outright, which created enough disruption that management wanted someone reliable there

until the rotation stabilized. No one used dramatic language. There were no warnings attached.

It was simply a site that had developed a pattern of staffing issues.

He arrived before sunset for the walkthrough. The property covered several acres, a mix of older

industrial buildings constructed in stages over decades. Corrigated metal siding streaked

from years of rain, wide roll-up doors, concrete floors scarred by heavy equipment. The place

had been built near what used to be the original rail line through town back when freight trains

mattered more than highways. The rail station itself had long since been

relocated and preserved as a small museum a few blocks away, but the ground beneath the foundry still

carried that earlier history. The site manager conducted a straightforward tour, production floors,

storage areas, perimeter gates, the small security office tucked at the far end of the

largest building. The expectations were standard. Hourly rounds, log all activity, verify
