What was bizarre about this week was to see the warring factions on the pavement opposite

the houses of Parliament, those waving the blue flags with the European stars and those

waving the Union jacks, normally at war with each other, celebrating together when the

house of commons rejected Theresa May's deal.

As I watch passionate levers and ardent remainers march to the cameras to declare victory, I thought,

surely, they can't both be right.

The reason it's been defeated so heavily is it?

So evidently a bad deal for the UK.

But the good news is, it's given the Prime Minister, I think, a massive mandate now,

you know, 432 votes against it, to go back to Brussels.

This is extraordinary, a government defeated by over 200 votes, no consensus in Parliament

and in that situation, I think you have to refer it back to the people.

And the bonus here is...

In truth, we don't know, they don't know, who's the victor?

The reason we don't know is we don't yet know which way Theresa May will jump, but jump

she must, she must choose in other words, between pleasing people like Jacob Rees Morgan,

Boris Johnson and David Davis, by going for a no deal or at least a managed no deal Brexit

or, as all my instincts tell me, she must go in the other direction, reaching out across

politics to build a coalition for a deal and lift a lot like the deal she proposed, but

a softer Brexit.
