I've never really seen myself as Davos Mann, the people who come here to the snow in

the Alps in their private jets and black limousines and network in the smart hotels of this

Swiss Alpine resort.

But I confess and forgive the name-dropping.

After arriving here, sitting down to dinner, near to Tim Berners-Lee, David Atombrough

and Nico Rosberg, I thought, I can see what this is about really.

In truth, for all the talk about what Davos Mann really represents, it is just a massive

networking opportunity.

3,000 people who want to go home, telling their friends, telling their colleagues whose

business cards they got, who they met and what stories they heard, but above all, stealing

the insights of others to make themselves feel and sound very clever.

As I've crunched through the snow, familiar faces pop up.

First George Osborne, then Tony Blair.

David Cameron's here, apparently though I haven't seen him.

Big clag is here, of course, in his new role at Facebook.

So too, David Millerband, my guest on the podcast this week, who tells me that he's happy

in New York, but he's thinking of home.

The amazing thing of it, of course, is that you can watch the footy are alive in New York

and the Brits in that sense are taking over.

You know, absence makes the heart grow fonder and home is always home.
