The North-South divide is something that politicians have worried about for centuries, really, but it has got worse recently.

At the start of the recession a lot of people actually seem that the gap would narrow because

it was London which had an economy so reliant on finance property, which was where the crash hit.

What you've actually seen now is it widening again.

So unemployment in most of the major northern regions are still above 10% while it's
