This is hell.

The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born.

Now is the time of monsters.

This is hell, and nowadays it seems it's getting more and more difficult to vanquish those monsters. For instance, why does it always seem like any, any strides at all

toward racial equality, liberation, and freedom.

Advancements often embraced by politicians at election time are repeatedly time and time again

stopped dead in their tracks.

Why is it always two steps forward and one step back?

Or worse, two steps back when we find ourselves back where we started, we're even worse than that, three steps back and we're in a place that's even more racist.

Many U.S. cities found themselves in the latter position, like here in Chicago, where a mayor was re-elected on a promise to not open

a cop city here in Chicago.

Upon re-election, the mayor did a 180 and was suddenly not only supportive of the new

police training center to be built in an already highly policed minority-majority neighborhood,

but expanded the project to placate the police and their

far-right union leadership. The quote we have likely cited more than any other on our show over the

past at least five years was from Austin McCoy when he told us the relationship between government and the police

is unassailable, that it is above question and cannot be criticized.

The police in that framing are a tool of state control, of state oppression,

with the history of policing and slave patrols dating back decades before the founding of the United States.
