| 0:23.2 | I'm Jason candor and I'm Robbie Gupta and this is majority 54, the podcast that helps Americans who voted for progress convinced those who didn't to join our majority. |
| 0:35.7 | Robbie, what's going on this week? Well Jason, the big news this week is all the negotiations going on at Capitol Hill over a series of of items that are both related and unrelated. |
| 0:47.2 | And so I'm going to try to do justice to just everything that's happening and just as a reminder, record this on Wednesday afternoon. |
| 0:52.7 | And so a lot of what I say could be updated by the time this air is on Thursday morning, but we have four things going on simultaneously right now on the hill. |
| 1:01.5 | Number one, we have a deadline coming up Friday morning where legislator's have to fund the government and Republicans have blocked a stopgap measure that would have just provided funding to keep the government operating because they want to attach it to the second item that's going on, which is the debt limit. |
| 1:20.9 | And right now we are days before not only the government runs out of money, but we're hitting our ceiling on the amount of money the government can borrow. |

| 1:36.5 | And the third item is that we have an infrastructure bill that had earlier passed the Senate and now is in the house. |
| 1:43.8 | And that negotiations coming to a head right now where Nancy Pelosi has signal that she's going to move ahead with that vote. |
| 1:51.0 | And there's a ton of politics going on there that we're going to talk about. |
| 1:54.4 | And then the fourth thing is that we have this huge $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill on social policy. |
| 2:01.2 | Some people will call it additional infrastructure, but it includes things that are outside of traditional hard costs of infrastructure. |
| 2:09.8 | And the GOP is doing everything in its power with a couple of exceptions to stop all of these things simultaneously and try to link them all together. |
| 2:19.6 | And they have voted down a couple of measures to extend government funding and to lift a debt ceiling. |
| 2:25.7 | And Democrats are trying to get these all four of these things through with some semblance of bipartisanship. |
| 2:32.4 | McConnell is playing politics here. |
| 2:35.6 | So they seem to be betting that the politics of the DEMs usually unilaterally raising the debt ceiling are good for the GOP and bad for Democrats. |
| 2:45.6 | And this is what McConnell had to say. |
