This week, we revisit our chat with writer Justin Kariscus, whose latest film, queer, just debuted at the Venice Film Festival.

That's his second collaboration with Luga Guaranino.

We talked about the first, which was actually his first movie, The Spicey Zendaya Tennis Rump, Challengers.

When you write a script on spec, you're really just writing it for yourself, and you have no idea

who's going to eventually collaborate on it with you. And in the case of this movie, it all came

together incredibly fast to the point that from the time I had finished the first draft of the

screenplay to the time we were in pre- had finished the first draft of the screenplay

to the time we were in pre-production was only a couple months.

Dustin Cariscus talks about how challengers, starring Zendaya,

was inspired by a particular U.S. Open match that turned him into a tennis obsessive.

And he shares how he and his wife, Celine Song, known for her Oscar-nominated past lives,

managed to keep their work separate from their relationship.

And we ask him about some of his quirkier creative efforts over the years.
