It was the Saturday before Thanksgiving when 22-year-old Dru Sjodin left work, walked through the mall, and called her boyfriend while heading to her car. Four minutes into the call, her voice shifted—distracted, tense. She said, “Okay, okay,” and the line went dead. He thought the call had dropped. By the time her abandoned car was found, night had fallen and the trail was already cold.
