How we interpret Scripture is vital. If we believe wrong about how we view God, His promises, or His commands the consequences are substantial. As many of you know, bad theology hurts people. Now if we believe wrong about how to make a tuna sandwich, the consequences of not understanding

the proper steps aren't all that damaging.

But if we believe wrong about how we view God, his promises, or his commands, the consequences

And for that reason, we must be very careful to interpret scripture properly.

The way you interpret scripture is called your hermeneutic.

I subscribe to what's called the literal grammatical and historical hermeneutic.

This means that I look for the natural and grammatical meaning of the text within the

historical and cultural context in which that passage was written.

In addition, I'm also cross-checking my conclusions with the rest of scripture and the historical

interpretation of the church.

So we're not looking at things in isolation, but in connection with scripture and the
